Students seek Sky Miles
Dudley Spoonamore, teacher at BCHS, has led his students to a national competition for the National Technology Student Association. This competition involved every aspect of the STEM curriculum – Science Technology, Engineering and Math. They won at the state level in the F1 in Schools Design Challenge with their CO2 model of an F1 racer. Because of this, they have been invited to compete in June 28 - July 2 in Baltimore, MD at the national competition. They are able to compete in several events, beyond just the F1.
Here’s the catch. At this writing, they are not funded in any way by the school district. Their costs include a $750 registration fee, hotels, transportation (which requires a bus driver for liability purposes, which adds another cost), and meals. Several corporations have stepped up to help but there is still a great amount left unfunded.
Perhaps you might help in some different ways. Do you have sky miles you might donate to these seven students and their teacher? Could you help with a small contribution toward their nearly $2000 in hotel and meal costs? Or their registration fee of $750? Maybe small donations will make a big difference in getting these students to a NATIONAL competition. They are deserving for their efforts and achievements to date. Let’s not let them down as they seek to get to the national level of competition!! Call Dudley at 236-5824 with any help you can give! Thank you for supporting our students!
